Teaser Tuesday - The Road to Enchantment

Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope January has been treating you well(:

I'm going full-out with my driving lessons this week - I've finally decided when I'm moving, and I need to get my license before then! So, full steam ahead it is!

On the reading side of life, I'm currently reading The Road to Enchantment. I can't remember why I requested it, but I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Managed to read about half on the train to school and back today, so hopefully I can finish it soon. My teaser (it's a bit longer than usual, but I just couldn't fit it into two sentences):

Teaser Tuesday - London's Glory by Christopher Fowler

It's Tuesday again, so time for another teaser! I've just finished reading this book, but since I haven't started on a new one, I think I'll just grab a teaser from it.

The book is called London's Glory, and it's a collection of detective short stories! I'm really enjoyed them, and now that I'm done reading, I want to read the Bryant and May series!

Teaser Tuesday - The Science of Monsters by Matt Kaplan

Hey everyone! Can you believe it's already Tuesday? It's also Day 2 of the Chinese New Year, so Happy Chinese New Year everyone!! Unfortunately, I'm still in the midst of exams, though my last paper is tomorrow.

Right now, I'm reading The Science of Monsters, which I've wanted to read ever since I read The Science of Magic. It's really interesting, to see the author theorise about what might be the real world cause of monsters like the Chimera, giant boars, vampires, etc. Although when it comes to Frankenstein, it's more of an explaining of the time period than an actual "what is probably cause" sort of thing.

My teaser:

"Aside from being fun for paleontologists, trying to work out how an ancient predator like Tyrannosaurus Rex functioned is a great exercise for realising just how small modern predators are. Perhaps more importantly, it is also an opportunity to recognise why dinosaurs have featured so prominently as monsters since their identification by the scientist Sir Richard Owen in 1841."

Teaser Tuesday - The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

It's Tuesday, so it's time for Teaser Tuesday! It's also the deadline for the Coursera course on Science Fiction and Fantasy, and I just handed in my paper, less than two hours before the deadline.

The Martian Chronicles is a beautiful, but strangely sad book by Ray Bradbury (at least, it is to me). Bradbury once described it as something like a set of stories that aspire to the status of a novel, and it really is.

Without further ado:

The rockets set the bony meadows afire, turned rock to lava, turned wood to charcoal, transmuted water to steam, made sand and silica into green grass which lay like shattered mirrors reflecting the invasion, all about. The rockets came like drum, beating in the night.

This quote is from the one page (on my tablet) story, The Locusts.

Teaser Tuesday - Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie

Teaser Tuesday time! Today, I started Sleeping Murder, which I didn't know was Miss Marple's Last Case because the library tag obscured most of the title. All I saw was "Agatha Christie" and since I didn't recognise the blurb, I decided to borrow it.

I just started, so Miss Marple hasn't appeared yet. I wonder when she will....

Hey! Chinese New Year is over, so I'm back to blogging!

This week, my teaser is from The King of Elfland's Daughter. I hear that it's a huge influence in the fantasy genre, so I'm really happy my library has a copy!

What am I currently reading?

Well, I'm currently reading a bunch of books, but the two main ones are First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen and Dark Sun, Bright Moon by Oliver Sparrow. They're two really different books, but I'm enjoying both of them so far.

What Did I Just Finish Reading?

Oh, this is a tough one. I think it was a re-read of Hyperbole and a Half. I saw it in Scribd, I was stressed, and the rest is history (it's hilarious, you should check it out for a laugh).

What will I read next? 

Hmm... not sure. I may go re-read some Sarah Rayne.

Teaser Tuesday - The Irresistible Fairy Tale by Jack Zipes

Ok, this Teaser Tuesday book is chosen for a very specific reason. I've been wanting to read it because it's about Fairy Tales, but for some reason, I've not been able to get past the first chapter.

But, I've heard it's a good read, so hopefully this teaser whets my reading appetite.

Woohoo! It's Tuesday! That means that my relatives are coming tomorrow! So you won't see me until I come back on the 24th with R.J Blain's Winter Wolf Release Day Party!

Right now, I'm reading The Land of Stories. I got this from BookOff a while back but had no time to read it. But since I'm a sucker for fairy-tales retold, I had to buy it. Well, no more procrastinating, I'm reading it now.

Teaser Tuesday - A Coin for the Ferryman by Rosemary Rowe

This is the last Libertus Mystery book the library has, and I'll be finishing it just before my friends come. Yay!

I'm sort of happy and sad that I'm at the end of the series (for now, until I figure out how to buy the later books). The teaser for today:

As part of my Libertus series review, my Teaser Tuesday is also going to be from the latest book that I'm reading. It's the third book in the series - Murder in the Forum. And I'm basically devouring it in one go, surfacing for internet every now and then.

Here's the teaser:

I love this week's teaser tuesday! I'm a huge fan of Kristin Hannah, and I'm so glad I managed to get my hands on a copy of her latest book (I think it's her latest book).

I won't waste anymore words. The teaser is:

Teaser Tuesday - The Germanicus Mosaic by Rosemary Rowe

I'm so excited for today's Teaser Tuesday because it's a teaser of a book that I've been looking for for a long time! I read this Roman mystery once, then forgot the title and author. All I knew was that I really enjoyed it. After much hunting, I think the series is the Libertus series by Rosemary Rowe. And it's only found at one library in Singapore ^^;

So today, I finally got my hands on three of the books! Here's my teaser:

"The question of the murder was settled to his satisfaction, perhaps. I was no so sure."(Page 170)

I'm really enjoying the book so far!

Teaser Tuesday - The Obsidian Dagger by Catherine Webb

It's Tuesday again~ I've been reading a lot recently (yay!) and neglecting my handphone (the laptop I still turn on once a day). It feels relaxing to be a little disconnected from the internet (or rather, my handphone).

Right now, I'm re-reading The Obsidian Dagger by Catherine Webb. I remember really loving the Haratio Lyle series in school, so I'm so excited to be able to re-read it!

My teaser:

Teaser Tuesday - The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings

Since I'm back in Singapore, I can finally go to the libraries to check out books that I'd like to read, but not necessarily want to buy. There is a long list of books, but I couldn't find all of them. I did end up borrowing 10 books, so I guess I'll be pretty busy reading the next few days. (Finally, proper print books!)

One of these books are The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings.

My teaser:

Wow, that's a Catch-22 situation.

Tuesday again? That means I am one week close to exams! And the end of the year. And growing up. And ok, you get the picture. Life is passing by me pretty quickly.

Right now, I'm reading Into The Light by Nicole Weider. Nicole is a former model, and the founder of Project Inspired. I got the book from that site, and her story has been captivating so far.

Teaser Tuesday - the curious incident of the dog in the night-time by mark haddon

This book is really famous, and I've been meaning to read this book for ages, but I've never gotten to doing it (strange right?). So today, while I was browsing Ranbow Plaza for something to read while taking a break from studying, I found it and decided to read it.

Here's to hoping that it lives up to the hype and is a wonderful read.

My teaser:

I like Sherlock Holmes, but I do not like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who was the author of the Sherlock Holmes series. That is because he wasn't like Sherlock Holmes and he believed in the supernatural. (Page 88)
