The wri...I am sorry this wasn't better for you. The writing is rather formal, which I guess I attributed to the time period, and so it didn't bother me too much. It's been marketed as similar to Downton Abbey, and I definitely got that feel from it. But, I do agree about it being on the slow side initially. There was a lot of set up. The real appeal for me to these books is the historical aspect. Such an exciting time period, and I liked the historical details the author included.
